Yesterday’s outage at Amazon affected some of our images, including the photos for the apartments. Luckily, we store copies of everything on a local machine, so operations were back to normal after a few minutes of broken image icons scattered across our site. Others using Amazon’s service weren’t so lucky, and had to deal with hours of downtime.
So what’s the moral of the story? Good, old-fashioned backups can’t be ignored even if you’ve got great Service Level Agreements and the technical know-how of a giant like Amazon.
